Tim McLean was born May 18, 1951, to John “Jack” and Marjorie McLean. He graduated from Munich High School in 1969. He served with the North Dakota Army National Guard at Cando for a time. He was united in marriage to Pat Hall on July 7, 1973. He worked in the lumberyard business his entire life. He started working at Robertson Lumberyard in Munich and later moved to Devils Lake and worked as Manager at Great Plains, UBC and later ProBuild. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and gardening. He built a cabin with his sons where he enjoyed spending time each summer with his family. He was always quick with a joke and no one escaped his teasing.
