A funeral service was held Thursday, August 15 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Northfield, Minn. for Robert “Bob” Fast, 89, of Northfield.

He died Saturday, August 10, 2013 at the Three Links Care Center.

Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in St. Paul with full Military Honors.

Robert Lee Fast was born January 4, 1924 in Fargo, son of Peter and Jenny (Penner) Fast. He was raised on his parent’s farm near Langdon where he attended school and helped with chores on the farm. His father later began working as a carpenter and built a number of homes in the Langdon area where he worked alongside his Dad. In 1942 he enlisted in the Navy and served in the South Pacific on the USS Kinzer as a Chief Petty Officer. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and returned to Langdon. On April 4, 1947 he was united in marriage to Glenna Jean Denler in Langdon where they made their home for a number of years. In 1956 they moved to Northfield where he began working at Enfield Motors as a body man. After a few years he began a long career as a master electrician first with Onstad Electric, later known as Doc’s Electric, Sheldahl and then Donaldsons where he retired. During these years he also had his own electrical business called Fast Electric. He continued doing small jobs and volunteered his services at the Used-A-Bit Shoppe repairing lamps and small appliances until his passing. He enjoyed reading, water skiing, traveling, and fishing up north and in Florida. He was a Past Commander of the VFW where he and Glenna were very active and he served on the Color Guard. He volunteered his electrician experience on two Mission trips with St. Peter’s Lutheran Church to Alaska.

He is survived by his wife Glenna; daughters Carol (Les) Ferris of Northfield, Kelly (Rod) Gasner of Owatonna, Minn.; son Jerry Fast of Arizona; grandchildren Tiffani Ferris, Les Ferris Jr, Abbi Gray, Kullen Fast, Kelsey Gasner; great grandchild Aubrey Ferris; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Percy Fast.
