A graveside funeral service was held Wednesday, August 14 at Lyleton Cemetery, Lyleton, MB for Lori McMechan, 56, of Lyleton.

She died Friday, August 9, 2013 at the Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg.
Lori was born July 14, 1957 in Devils Lake. She attended elementary and high school in Langdon and received a degree in Early Childhood Education at North Dakota State University. After receiving her degree she worked for 11 years at Head Start in Towner coordinating home visits while she also performed assessments for the Child Development Agency (CDA) all over the United States. She met her husband, Lionel McMechan and lived with him in Minot for 5 years. In 1995 they had their first child, Brendan. In 1995 they moved to rural Lyleton where they built a new house for their new family. Their daughter, Mikayla, was born shortly after. The house was always filled with stray animals that she had found on the side of the road. She continued to perform CDA assessements in the Minot area. She taught weekly parenting classes at the Elspeth Reid Family Resource Center, as well as submitted weekly parenting articles to the Brandon Sun. She enjoyed card making, scrapbooking and quilting. She was very involved in the community and was part of the Parent Advisory Council, Carnival of Crafts and was Director of the Pierson Early Learning Centre from before its opening. She dedicated her life to her family and friends and anyone she met whom she felt was in need. She always lived by her high school graduation motto; “It matters not how long we live, but how”.
She was predeceased by her mother Vivian Goschke in 2005; son Jordan McMechan in 1992; father-in-law Tom McMechan in 2002; sister-in-law Marion McMechan in 1979.
She is survived by her husband Lionel; son Brendan; daughter Mikayla; father Melvin Goschke; two brothers Jeff Goschke and Greg (Deb) Goschke; mother-in-law May McMechan; McMechan in-laws Tim (Michelle) McMechan, Steve (Vicky) McMechan, Tony (Debbie) McMechan, Andy (Pam) McMechan, Molly (Danny) Morris, Janie (Les) Moir, Linda (Jerry) Drul and Barb (Marcel) Moreau.
