Marie Kate, daughter of Pete and Catherine (Worm) Gartner was born in Clyde and raised in the Clyde/Munich area. She was a member of the Catholic Church and then joined the Lutheran Church after her marriage. She was united in marriage to Henry H. Timm on June 25, 1938. Their farm was located northeast of Egeland. She was a farmer’s wife, homemaker, and mother. She did house cleaning and painting for area women when they were on the farm and she and Henry worked side by side and raised their six children. They moved to Hampden and ran the café there for a few years. She soon became known for her delicious pies and doughnuts. She and Henry moved back to the farm for a short time but returned to Hampden in 1974 where they lived until 1983. While in Hampden, she did volunteer work for RSVP and worked for the Green Thumb Program. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Homemaker’s Club, Bonco Club, Ladies Aide and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed friends and family tremendously. When Henry entered the nursing home in 1984, she moved to Langdon. While in Langdon, she returned to the Catholic Church and in 1992 moved to Devils Lake where she resided at the time of her death. Henry passed away on November 30, 1984. In Devils Lake, she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a Foster Grandma at the Memorial Day Care. When she retired from Memorial Day Care, she kept busy doing volunteer work serving meals for the Senior Citizen Meals on Wheels. While in Devils Lake, she lived in the Great Northern Apartments, Skyview Apartments and most recently the Odd Fellows Home. She spent the last two months at the Heartland Care Center. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, some quilting and various other crafts throughout her life. She was a wonderful cook and always wanted to feed people. She was a very generous and loving person.
