A funeral service was held Friday, January 31, 2014 at the Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church of Fairdale for Shirley J. Vejtasa, 71, of Edmore.

She died Monday, January 27, 2014 at her home in Edmore.
Interment will be at the Gustavus-Adolphus Lutheran Cemetery of rural Fairdale.
Shirley J. McDaniel was born September 20, 1942 in Langdon, the daughter of the late Ivan and Evelyn (Weiner) McDaniel. She grew up in the Langdon area and graduated from Nekoma High School. She then attended Mayville State University for two years and received her teaching certificate. Following her education she taught school in Lakota. She was united in marriage to Vernon Vejtasa on June 23, 1963 at the Gustavus-Adolphus Lutheran Church of rural Fairdale. The couple lived on their farm near Fairdale for 50 years and she worked as a waitress for the Stable’s Restaurant in Langdon and later for the Alexander House in Park River. She retired in 2012 and they moved to Edmore in 2013. She was a member of the Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church and WELCA of Fairdale, the Our Redeemer’s Quilting group, a former member of the church council, and served on the Fairdale and Edmore School Boards. She loved to quilt and was so proud of the many quilts they made every winter. She also enjoyed trips to the casino with Vernon and the Fairdale crew, gardening and baking. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and attending their many activities and events.
Shirley is survived by her husband Vernon, Edmore; daughters: Suellen (Tim) Zenker, Wahpeton, Audrey (Rory) Lorenz, Lawton; grandchildren: Chase and Abby Zenker, Shelby and Haley Lorenz; sister Edith Sellheim, Fargo; brother Richard McDaniel, Mandan; sister-in-law Ann McDaniel, Grand Forks; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 infant siblings, and brother Duane McDaniel.She was preceded in death by her parents, two infant siblings, and brother Duane McDaniel.
