A funeral service was held Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church of Williston for Hance “Jim” Lawson, 80, of Williston.

He died Saturday morning, April 12, 2014 at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Minot.
Interment at Riverview Cemetery.
Hance James Lawson was born to Hance O. and Mary (Ellis) Lawson in Hannah on June 24, 1933. He was raised and educated in Hannah. He worked for Bob Ellis as a carpenter’s helper before he enlisted in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was Honorably Discharged on August 15, 1956. On November 1, 1956, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Scott in Williston. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he returned to North Dakota and began his career in the Oil Patch. He worked in Tioga at R.A. Prather and later for KBM Well Service and CRC-KMB Well Service until his retirement. Following his retirement, he worked part-time for Bobby Erickson. He was a member of numerous clubs, organizations and civic boards including; Boy Scouts; The American Legion; Lignite Fire Chief and Mayor of Lignite; Tioga City Councilman; member of Association of Oil Field Workers; Williston City Council where he served as the Police/Fire Commissioner; Moose Lodge; Independent Order of Odd Fellows where he was a past Grand Master; Navy League; past Williston Band Day Chairperson; VA bus driver; and a member of the Williston Veterans Honor Guard. He was very active in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives. They all enjoyed their individual “get-togethers” with him, and they all had their own personal relationships with him. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, horseback riding, and wood working. He was an avid reader and a willing and capable handyman for anyone that needed him.
Surviving Jim are his wife, Phyllis, of Williston; one son, Douglas Lawson of Devils Lake; one daughter, Colleen (Tom) Gustafson of Tioga; sisters, Joanne (Kenneth) Shaw of Thief River Falls, Minn. and Drina (Dennis) Hansel of Langdon; sister-in-law, Romell Lawson of Tioga; seven grandchildren, David A. (Rachael) Lawson, Daniel J. (Michelle) Lawson, Christopher D. Lawson, Eric R. Lawson, Alex M. Lawson, Lynze Lea (Jeff) Feller, and Jordyn Makell Gustafson; two great-grandchildren already here, Keely Joy Lawson and Zoey Ellen Lawson and the Feller twins who plan to arrive sometime in September; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Jim in death were his parents, Hance and Mary Lawson; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Samuel and Elsie Scott; daughter-in-law, Kristy E. (Moe) Lawson; brother, Kenneth A. Lawson; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Everson Funeral Home of Williston was in charge of arrangements.
