A funeral service was held Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at the Adams Mountain Lutheran Church of Adams for LaVerne Kaye Heffta, age 76 of rural Park River and Adams.

She died Sunday, July 13, 2014 at her home near Park River.
Interment will be at the Sarepta Lutheran Cemetery, rural Adams.
LaVerne Kaye Midtlyng was born September 24, 1937 in Grafton the daughter of the late Ingbrigt and Ellen (Westberg) Midtlyng. She attended rural school at the Benas Memorial School near Adams and graduated from Adams High School. She was united in marriage to Oscar Heffta Jr. on February 25, 1955 in Nekoma. The couple made their home in Latona Township of Walsh County where they farmed unitl 1996 when they moved to their home near Park River. She was a member of the former Sarepta Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday school for many years. She was an active 4-H leader and a 58 year member of the Kraft Klub. She was currently a member of the Adams Mountain Lutheran Church and WELCA.
Kaye is survived by her husband, Oscar Heffta, rural Park River; her children: Debbie (Gary) Behm, Niagra; Donna (Lynn) Schmiess, Munich; Guy (Karen) Heffta, Adams; Scott (Jeanette) Heffta, Adams: Todd Heffta, (fiancé, Mary Skorheim), Grand Forks; Dean (Sarah) Heffta, Washington, Ill.; 10 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and siblings: Marianne Gustafson, Adams and Homer (Yvonne) Midtlyng, Spokane, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister, Rheta Jean and grandson, Jared Udby.
The Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River is in charge of the arrangements.
