Marlys Eileen Harveland was born April 13, 1939 in Devils Lake, ND to Iver Harveland and Myrtle (Bjorland) Harveland Thorson. She attended school in Hampden, graduating in 1957. She married Kenneth Loewen on July 25, 1957 in Zoar Lutheran Church in Hampden. She and Kenny farmed near Alsen, and after their children were grown, she started as cook at the high school in Langdon. She worked there for 15 years along with substitute bus driving for her husband. She also decorated hundreds of cakes as a side business. After wintering in town for several years, they moved to Langdon permanently in 2007. She enjoyed quilting, sewing doll clothes, crocheting, playing cards and many other games with the grandkids. She loved telling stories and jokes, especially Ole and Lena jokes. She also liked to exercise with the ‘girls’ at the Activity Center. They frequently went to the Langdon Eagles or Nekoma for supper and to visit with friends.
