Born May 31, 1943, in Johnstown, he was the son of the late Moses and Sarah (Pennepacker) Gunny. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1961 with an honorable discharge in 1965. From 1965 to 1969, he worked in the missile program for American Air Filter in Great Falls, Mont. and Grand Forks (where he met his wife Betty Balsdon). Then, he went to work for Hussman Refrigeration in St. Louis, Mo. until 1976. He worked for Fujitsu (formerly National Semiconductor) as a project manager for the next 37 years in Missouri, New Hampshire and California. He was well-respected at his job which took him to many countries including Japan, England, China, Norway, and Scotland. Humorous, thoughtful, and loyal are how both strangers and his closest friends would describe him. But nothing fulfilled him more than serving and being with his wife, children, grandchildren, and extended friends and family members. He enjoyed working on his beautiful yard and traveling the world with Betty. He had visited all 50 states, but his true joy came from spending time with those he’d met along his journey.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother Ron Gunny (and his wife Patricia Ziner), and sister, Alberta Gorman.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Betty; child Anny Gunny (her husband Rob Flaherty and three children Emily (10), Lolly (5), and Leah (3) also of Carlsbad); child Katie Gunny (her husband Fernando Cardenas and two children Jaxon (6) and Kate (4) of Boulder, Colo.); sister Susie Dalton ; sister Kathy Gruber (of Ft. Myers, Fla.); brother-in-law Keith Balsdon and wife Connie, and brother-in-law Dennis Balsdon and wife Linda.
