Dale M. Hoffmann

A memorial Mass was held Friday, December 19, 2014 in St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Grand Forks for Dale M. Hoffmann, 69 of East Grand Forks, Minn.

He died Sunday December 14, 2014 at home unexpectedly with his wife, children and grandchildren by his side.

Dale Michael Hoffmann was born September 17, 1945 in Devils Lake, the son of Michael and Madelyn (Wirth) Hoffmann. He attended school in Munich and graduated from Munich High School in 1963. As a student, he was active in basketball, baseball and was a member of the High School Band. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the North Dakota Army National Guard, which he served in for several years. During this time, he was employed with the First State Bank of Munich. He worked and served the community of Munich until 1981. He was united in marriage to Mary Beth Downs on October 19, 1968 and had three children, Rayanne, Ryan and Ronda, “Triple R’s”. The family moved to Stephen, Minn. in the winter of 1981 when they bought a Coast to Coast Hardware Store. The family closed the store in 1989. In 1992, they picked up their house and moved it to East Grand Forks, Minn., where he continued to work in the hardware business until he retired. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and many car clubs. He spent his time buying, trading and restoring cars for himself, his children and grandchildren, fixing and doing home repair at everyone’s houses and spending weekends at the Larimore Dam.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Beth; children, Rayanne Hoffmann, Ryan (Cheryl) Hoffmann, Ronda (Jared Rardin) Hoffmann, all of East Grand Forks, Minn.; grandchildren, Marcus, Chris, and Emily Hoffmann, Grand Forks, Lincoln and Nikie Hoffmann, East Grand Forks, Minn.; step-grandchildren, Matti (Laura) Roinila and Jari Roinila, all of Grand Forks; his mother, Madelyn Hoffmann, Grand Forks; a sister, Maureen (Gary) Mork of Petersburg and many nieces and nephew.

He was preceded in death by his father Michael.

  1. As a high school classmate of Dale’s, I am very saddened to hear this news. I think fondly of the fact that he organized our 25th and last year’s 50th class reunions. He was the one who kept in touch with all of us. He will be greatly missed.
