They say dogs are man’s best friend and to hear Patti and Kim Sando of Patty Paws Dog Grooming tell it, that adage is monumental in truth.

For nearly five years, the Sando’s have been grooming dogs at 1221 11th Avenue and have developed a clientele list of nearly 120 with room to grow.

But the early years of the business can be traced back 20 years to Patti’s humble beginning grooming dogs.

I’ve always loved dogs,” she said. “I used to raise and show shelties for 15 years. I bought a clipper and cut two Shih Tzu’s and when everyone saw them, they wanted me to cut their dogs. That’s how I got started, We started with two or three dogs a week and things have grown from there.”

“It is very surprising to us we’ve gotten as far as we have.”

Husband Kim, now retired, handles the washing and drying.

“Some dogs are easy, some like to jump and some do move around quite a bit,” he laughed. “We didn’t know that many people had dogs in Langdon. Walhalla has been good to us and so has the surrounding areas.”

“We try to treat the dogs like they are our own. We help our customers out. I don’t mind picking up a dog or taking it home after it is finished.”

Going the extra mile is something the Sando’s pride themselves on.

“We do go above and beyond,” Patti explained. “We try to make it as comfortable as possible for the dogs. We play music for them and just give them a lot of TLC.”

“It is very important to have good communication with the owners. You tell me what you want and I’ll do that.”

“People realize we care for their dogs just like they are our own.”

With the holiday season here, Patti suggested calling ahead to book your appointment to have your best friend groomed at Patty Paws.
