Christmas Giving Tree a big success

Great works are born from great ideas and during the 2013 Christmas season, Alex and Vanessa Chaput hit the nail on the head with their first annual Christmas Giving Tree at Langdon Motor Inn.

“It was great,” Alex said. “It was more than anyone had expected. We were able to give out over 100 presents.”

The presents were distributed to Maple Manor, Langdon Area High School, middle school, elementary school and social services.

Each present was generated from a tag pulled from the Giving Tree, citing the need for the recipient. What started out as 50 tags ended up being 75 and then some.

“People were bringing in multiple presents with one tag and we were more than happy to give them away,” Alex said. “This is a very giving community.”

The Giving Tree was put together in a short period of time and Alex said 2014 will be bigger and better.

“We put this year together pretty quick,” he said. “I think we did okay. We learned from it. We’ve gotten a lot of suggestions and compliments from the community.

“We want to thank everyone for their generous outpouring and acceptance of the project.”

Vanessa is ready for next Christmas to get here.

“We thoroughly enjoyed doing the Giving Tree,” she said. “We look forward to hosting it for years to come.”
