Let’s begin with a boatload of information this week by sending a big time congratulations to the Langdon girls golf team, on winning the Region 3 Golf Meet held May 14 in Larimore. The Lady Cards shot a team score of 391 in adverse conditions to win the meet.  Senior Brynn Fischer won medalist honors shooting an 86. Great job by Brynn and all the golfers – Shea Ormiston, Jayden Romfo, Andria Hart, Krystal Ratzlaff and Kylie Kram on winning the title and now advancing to the state meet, which will be held May 27-28 at the Crossroads Golf Course in Carrington.  It was the first time Langdon has won the regional since 2004.  Best of luck to the girls at state.

Langdon Red Sox name new coach, plus enter a new league

The Langdon Red Sox American Legion Baseball team has a new coach for the 2014 season.  He is Dylan Crockett, who is a graduate of Langdon High School and attended the Air Force Academy.  Crockett is also a form member of the legion program, and is looking forward to guiding the Red Sox to a great season.  Dylan will be assisted by Jay Adam and Jim Salvaggio to provide a veteran coaching presence for the team.  American Legion Baseball has gone to a three class system this year, with Grafton moving up to a new class A division with the likes of Devils Lake and Wahpeton, while Langdon is staying Class B.  The Red Sox will be in what is called the Northeast Region with six other teams – Park River, Midway-Minto, Thompson, Larimore, Rolette and Cando.  It should be a great region for Langdon being they are right in the middle of it, and the Red Sox are looking forward to renewing old rivalries with Rolette and Cando, team they haven’t played consistently in almost 10 years. And of course Langdon is still hosting the State B American Legion Tourney, July 30-Aug. 3, and they get an automatic host team in the tournament. It should be a fun baseball summer for all of Cavalier County.

Region tournaments continue

Due to many weather related postponements, the Region 4 High School Baseball Tournament has been pushed back to May 19. It was not determined at press time who would host the tourney, or who would be seeded where.  The Langdon-Munich Cardinals hoped to get the third seed, and if so would play at around 5:30 p.m. on May 19 in a play-in game. But again, games needed to be played before the final seeding would be decided.  Tune in to KNDK 1080 May 19 to get the final tournament schedule.

State Track Meet May 23-24 in Bismarck

The 2014 State Class A and B Track Meet will be held at the Community Bowl in Bismarck May 23-24. The Langdon Area Track Teams has four girls qualified for state thus far. Joceyln Dinius has had a fabulous year qualifying in the 100, 200 and 400 meter runs, the 300 meter hurdles, and pole vault and long jump (WOW!). Sydney Ellingson has also made state in the long jump, along with Madison Hart in the javelin and Madison Gapp in the mile run. No boys had qualified yet, but many more athletes should at the Region 2 Meet in Larimore May 17. We will list those boys and girls next week.

Remember Mount Carmel Dam opens for the season this weekend, and “See ya!” next week!
