Jake’s take on sports

Here comes the American Legion postseason

We take a deep breath as we begin this week, as the next two weeks are going to be extremely busy.  The American Legion Baseball postseason is upon us, and it is going to be a wild 14 days.  It all begins with the North East Region Tournament, which will be held in Park River at Vern Halvorson Field July 23-26.  The Langdon Post 98 Red Sox were still trying to get the second seed in the tournament, pending on a regular season game at Park River which was played July 18.  After the regional tourney is finished, we get set for the State B American Legion Baseball Tournament, which will be held at American Legion Field in Langdon July 30-Aug. 3.  There is a late need for a host home for one of the teams and a team host for the tournament games.  If you can help out with either need, it would be greatly appreciated, please call Holly Lyons at 256-2613 for more information.  We will have much more state tournament information in this column and on the front page next week.

T-Ball and Pee Wee Baseball concludes for the year

July 16 was the final day for T-Ball and Pee Wee Baseball in Langdon.  According to all reports, things went very well for both programs.  A big thank you to Jacy Borgen for doing an outstanding job with the T-Ballers, and to Mitch Jorgenson, Nick Moser and Alex Chaput to coordinating the Pee Wee program.  Now all four of these folks would be the first to tell you that they received a lot of help from young and old to help make the programs run so well.  And as a member of the Langdon Park Board Baseball Committee, I tip my cap to everyone that helped out or supported the programs.  It’s crazy that it is already over.

Lucas Dick competes in the Lions All-Star Games

Also this week we need to recognize Munich’s Lucas Dick on being selected to play at the Lions All-Star Basketball Games, which were played at the Bismarck Civic Center 15 and at the Fargo Civic Center July 16.  Lucas’ Class B Boys team lost both games to the Class A squad (whose guards were phenomenal!), but I’m sure it was still an experience he won’t soon forget.  Dick scored four points in Bismarck and three in Fargo.  This ends the high school career for Lucas, and it also ends an unbelievable run of athletes in the Dick family in Munich.  Well, until the next generation anyway.  At last report Lucas was still planning on walking onto the NDSU Men’s basketball team.  We wish him well!

Music Fest weekend is here

Let’s leave you this week by reminding everyone that Musicfest weekend is coming July 25-26.  The Fireman’s Supper will be held the evening of July 25 at the Langdon Activity Center.  Please remember this the only fundraiser they do all year so please support it.  The Rendevous Region Rod Run happens both days of Musicfest, and there will be great activities all day July 26, culminating in some great entertainment that evening.  Even though there is no Free Beer this year (although hopefully we will return to play it again someday), we can tell you that Whiskey 7 and 32 Below are both fantastic bands and they plays songs for all ages.  We welcome everyone coming back for what should another glorious Musicfest weekend.

“See ya!”  next week!
