Let’s begin this week by telling it is back to school time this week for some kids in our area.  School starts are all over the board this year.  Edmore is the first shoe to drop, as they will begin class Aug. 19, with a back to school open house happening Aug. 18 from 3:45 to 6:45, where you can check out new improvements to the Edmore school, plus meet the staff and enjoy free hot dogs. It is open to everyone.  Munich and North Star schools will begin Aug. 20. The Langdon Area and Rolla Schools will start a week later on Aug. 26, followed by North Border and Cavalier on Aug. 27. Not sure why these start dates are so different from school to school, but we assume that some are preparing for a possible start after Labor Day next year, which will be decided in a state wide vote in November. Please be aware of these starting dates and use extra caution when traveling in school zones.

Langdon-Munich volleyball practice set to begin Aug. 18

The Langdon-Munich Cardinals, now in their third year together as a volleyball co-op, will have their first practices of the season Aug. 18. The varsity will go first at 8:30 a.m., with the junior high to follow at 1:00 p.m. The Lady Cards will also have a scrimmage at Grand Forks Central for the varsity and JV at 10:00 a.m. Aug. 23. The Cardinals head coach once again this year will be Rich Olson, and back to join Rich on the varsity team will coach Tami Flink, who was coaxed back into the program taking over for Monica Voller who has left the area. Coaching the junior high team this year will be Jane Hart and Jenny Romfo. Langdon’s first match is at Thompson Sept. 4, and their first home match is versus Cavalier Sept. 9. And on the college volleyball level, Langdon graduate McKenzie Hart is getting ready to go for her junior season with the UND Volleyball Team. They were picked fourth in the preseason Big Sky Conference poll, although they did get two first place votes.  Best of luck to McKenzie this fall.

Cross Country has begun as well

The Langdon-Munich Cross Country team has already begun practice, which start Aug. 11. Amy Frier is once again running the program from grades 7-12. Their first meet is at Grand Forks Aug. 28, and there is good news as Langdon will host their first cross country meet in several years, which will be held at the Langdon Country Club on Oct. 2. We will have a preview of all things high school fall sports with our annual Fall Sports Profile in the weeks ahead.

Last league night for Tuesday Men’s Golf

Aug. 19 will be the final night for Tuesday Night Men’s League Golf at the Langdon Country Club. An extra week was added, due to one that was missed due to weather early in the season. Of course there will still be Tuesday Men’s Stag Night continuing for the next month or two, but Aug. 19 will be the last official night for the league. Also the Wednesday Night Women’s League completed their league schedule Aug. 13, but all league members are welcome to come out their annual Ladies Fun Night on Aug.  20.  Thanks to everyone who supported both leagues this year.

Getting a Red Rider view of harvest

We will leave to saying as you read this we are off to WIlliston and Stanley for a little family get together. We should be able to give a full report on how harvest is going in all of northern North Dakota, plus some always enteraining stories about life in the Bakken Region the next time we visit here.

“See ya!” next week!
