He will be at the school on a part-time basis for the present.
Scheer, who is originally from Underwood, has been in education for over 30 years.
He received his doctorate in education from the University of North Dakota.
Most recently Scheer was the superintendent for the Douglas school district in South Dakota. There, he oversaw 2700 students in grades Kindergarten-12 for eight years.
He retired from that position and moved back to North Dakota to be closer to his family, the Hartje and Chadwicks of Cavalier.
Scheer brings experienced leadership to the St. Alphonsus school with most of his experience being in administration.
“So far, I’m really liking it at St. Alphonsus” Scheer said.
For most of Scheer’s career in education, he has been a superintendent mostly in the eastern part of North Dakota.
The longest position he has held was as the principal in Cavalier for 11 years.
For Scheer the biggest adjustment from his previous position at Douglas school district to St. Alphonsus is the number of students.
“I am more available to the staff because of the difference in size” Scheer said.
