After much thought and consideration, Marnie Brooks made the careful decision to sell her family owned business, Brooks Funeral Home, to Tom Askew of Cavalier.

The family graciously served the community of Langdon for over three decades. With growing children at home, they decided it was time to step down so they could be more active in their lives.

Their commitment to families over the years, especially their own, reigns ever so true in light of their recent decision.

In a statement made last week, Brooks commented, “As of Sept. 1, 2014, I placed our family firm in the capable hands of Tom Askew. Tom has owned and operated firms in Cavalier and Walhalla for many years and has a good reputation with his communities. We felt it was placing the community in good care to choose him.” Brooks continued on to say, “It has truly been an honor and a privilege to care for families. It has not been a job at all, but instead a way of life.”

The new owner, Tom Askew, has been in the funeral home business for close to 30 years. His passion for helping people in their time of need led him to getting a degree in Mortuary Science through the University of Minnesota in the early 80’s.

He then went on to open his first funeral home in Cavalier in 1985 and later opened a second one in Walhalla in 1992. He is now looking forward to expanding his services to the Langdon area.  His son, Anthony, will be joining him as he takes on another firm and will be moving to Langdon in October to be closer to the business. The former staff of Brooks Funeral Home will also be making the transition and continuing on as the new ownership takes place.

Tom Askew remarked, “It’s very rewarding being there for people. We are really privileged to have this opportunity and look forward to serving and being involved with this community.” For any questions regarding their services or recent changes, please contact Tom Askew at 701-256-2568.
