Volleyball Heaven in Langdon Sept. 27

Posted on 9/27/14

By Jake Kulland

Let’s start this week by letting you know that a volleyball lovers dream day is coming to Langdon Sept. 27.  Most of you get this paper on that very same day, so the action has most likely already begun. Langdon is hosting a junior varsity tournament all day at the high school gym, and also a junior high tourney at the Langdon Activity Center.  The JV teams that will be here include Langdon-Munich, North Star, North Border, Belcourt, Cavalier, Drayton-Valley-Edinburg, Grafton, Park River-Fordville-Lankin, and the Grand Forks Central and Red River sophomore teams.  The junior high tourney features three teams from Langdon-Munich (that’s right – 3!), two teams from North Border, two from Park River-Fordville-Lankin, two from Devils Lake and one from Cavalier. Action in both tournaments begins or has begun at 9:00 a.m. And while we are speaking about volleyball, we need to put a big time shout out to the Lady Cards varsity team, who is cruising right along with a record of 15-1 on the year, and got another 20 team tournament win at Grafton Sept. 20.  And as I’m sure you’ve noticed by now, Dennis “Scoop” Throndset is back on the scene covering Langdon-Munich volleyball this year… Good to have you back “Mr. T”!

Cardinals football team finally makes it back home

After a long three game road trip, the Langdon-Munich Cardinals football team will finally be back in friendly confines of their home field when they host North Border on Oct. 3.  The Cards have traveled to Midway, Rolette and Larimore in the last three weeks, and I’m sure are very much looking forward to playing in front of their home fans.  We encourage folks to come to the game as this will be the last meeting between the Eagles and the Cardinals, as North Border is moving down to 9 Man Football next year.  It should be a fun rivalry game for both teams, and we are looking forward to only driving a few blocks to cover the game rather than 90 miles. We also hope that folks will attend the benefit for Julie Feil before or after the game at the Langdon Eagles Club. That starts at 5:00 p.m. and runs all evening long.

Highway 5 Pool League getting ready to go once again

We will leave you this week by reminding all pool players that the Highway 5 League will have an organizational meeting Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m. At the Hop Bar & Grill in Langdon.  The league may be a little different this year as one location for the league has been lost but one maybe coming back as the Osnabrock Bar (formerly Good Times) has new owners, and they hope to be in operation sometime in October.  Also other bars are picking up more teams.  So if you would like to start a team or join an existing one, please be at the meeting on Oct. 2. L & L Amusement will run the league once again this year.

“See ya!” next week!
