‘Twas the week before Christmas, when all through the school

Every creature was stirring, including Mr. Olson;
The papers were graded by the teachers with care,
In hopes that all A’s soon would be given;
The students were restless all snug in their desks;
While visions of sleeping in danced in their heads;
And Mr. Rogers in his office, and Terian at her desk,
Had just settled their brains for a short winter’s break,
When out in the halls there arose such a clatter,
Rogers sprang from his office to see what was the matter.
Away to the hallway he flew like a flash,
Tore open the door and threw up the sash.
The lights in the hallways of the once quiet school,
Gave the soft glow of the moon on the snow,
When what to wondering minds did appear,
But students and more students
With wrapping paper, lights and trees, the students were ready to deck the halls quick!
Rogers knew in a moment they must be up to some Christmas trick.
More rapid than eagles his students went to work,
And they whistled, and shouted, and called out orders:
“Let’s wrap up the lockers! Put the Christmas tree there! String up the lights from one end to the other!
Oh, candy canes! And snowflakes! And lots of wrapped presents too!
To the top of the ceiling! to the top of the wall!
Now decorate! decorate! decorate these drab halls!”
As leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky;
So up to the ceiling the ceiling they flew
With the lights in their hands, and other decorations too—
And then, in a twinkling, the lights were hung.
The prancing and dancing of each student’s foot.
As the staff stared in wonder, and was turning around,
Down the halls the students came with a bound.
They decked the halls, quite literally, from the floor to ceiling,
And with ornaments and lights they spiffed up old trees;
A bundle of packages they carefully stacked,
And they looked so happy and all full of glee.
The staff’s eyes—how they twinkled! Their smiles, how merry!
Every cheek was like roses, The grins from ear to ear!
Every mouth spilled forth laughter and the sounds so wonderful to hear,
And as the decorating began in earnest, the students set their minds to their work;
The paper was flying as locker after locker became wrapped in festive cheer,
And the lights twinkled brightly, down Santa Street;
The Candy Cane Lane had a long way to go.
But the students worked fast and it soon sparkled and shone.
The fireplaces were tricky, but they too soon had a glow, as the students finished their work.
And the staff laughed when they saw them, in spite of themselves
A wink in their eyes and a twist of their hands
Soon gave the teachers to know they had nothing to dread;
The students spoke not a word, but went all through the halls,
And seeing all their hard work; gave festive pats on the back,
And putting their coats on throwing on their packs,
And giving high fives, out the school doors they ran;
They sprang to their cars, to each other gave a loud cheer,
And away they all flew like fast running deer.
But Rogers heard them exclaim, before they drove out of sight—
“Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”
* The school actually held a decorating contest for the month of December.
The contest was sponsored by the high school student council.
“All the classes and the advisors put a lot of effort into it this year. It was a tough decision picking the winning class” Rich Rogers, the Langdon Area High School Superintendant stated.
The Junior class was the winning class this year.
Well done everyone!
