Grieving for the Singing Farmer

Posted on 1/24/15

We start this week by sending out condolences to the Glen Symons family.  Glen passed away last week after a courageous battle with cancer.  We count Glen as a good friend, and had many good times with the man known to many as the “The Singing Farmer”.  We lost count how many times that Glen would sit in with our band Hard Times to play guitar and sing whenever he was in the audience.  We also had the good fortune of backing him up at several musical extravaganzas back in the day at Langdon High School.  Glen was one of the most good natured people we have ever met.  He loved his family, his music and the Lebanon Lodge of the Langdon Masons, which he was a dedicated member.  We will all miss you Glen, and I’m listening to one of his favorite songs, “Me and Bobby McGee” as I’m typing these words.  Also condolences go out to the community of Cando for the loss of John Elsperger, who coached the Cando Cubs in boys basketball for 25 years and was instrumental in bringing together the North Star School District.  He was a true icon of Cando and entire area.

Beck makes the Sporting News Fab 50
We are happy to report that NDSU Bison senior linebacker Travis Beck has received a postseason honor.  He along with five of his teammates were named to what is called the Sporting News FCS Fab 50, recognizing the best 50 players of that level of college football. Also making it were defensive lineman Kyle Emmanuel, tackle Joe Haeg, quarterback Carson Wentz, running back John Crockett and safety Colton Heagle.  Congratulations to all of these great athletes on such a great list and honor.

Beer and Bacon time
We will leave you by telling to get your ticket for the 2nd Annual Beer and Bacon Bash, which will be held Jan. 30 all over Langdon. Tickets are available at the FM Bank, Sportys, At the Hop and Choice Financial.  There are a record 22 stops on the Bash this year, all of them which should be a blast.  Many prizes will be given away at the Langdon Eagles Club beginning at 9:00pm.  The organizers hopes everyone comes out and has a great time.

“See ya!”  next week!
