As we go to type this week, the postseason is underway and rolling right along. The District 8 Girls Basketball Tournament started in Cando on Feb. 13. The Langdon-Munich Cardinals are hoping to make it to the Region 4 Tournament, which starts in Devils Lake Feb. 23-26. The Lady Cards will be playing for sure sometime on championship night of the district tourney, tune into to KNDK 1080 to find out when and who they play. And while there is no District Tournament for the North Border Eagles this year, who are now in what is called “Super Region 2”, it looks like the Eagles will host a play-in game to the regional in Walhalla on Feb. 20. There opponent was also yet to be determined.
State Wrestling Tournament begins in Fargo Feb. 19
The first state tournament of the winter season is for wrestling, and it goes from Feb. 19-21 at the Fargodome. The Pembina County North Grizzlies will be well represented at the state tourney, as they are ranked third in the team dual portion of the tournament and will take on Hettinger-Scranton in the opening round on Feb. 19, with the individual portion of the tourney starting later that day. The Grizzlies will be without defending state champion Bradyn Horgan, however, as he suffered a season ending elbow injury in practice last week. He is a junior and will fortunately get to comeback for another season next year. According to coach Shon Horgan, Jeff Stith and Brett Verville have the best chances now of winning a state individual title. Best of luck to Pembina County North at state.
Senior Day and Night coming to Langdon
As some sports are in the postseason, some are just finishing off their regular season. The Langdon Blades boys and girls hockey teams will have a “Senior Day”, to recognize the seniors and their parents on Feb. 15 at 12:45pm. The girls host Fargo at 11:00am that day, while the junior gold team will play Crosby at 1:00pm. Meanwhile the Langdon-Munich Cardinals boys basketball team will have their Senior Night on Feb. 19, before their last regular season game against Lakota-Edmore. Hopefully folks can get out and support both events.
“See ya!” next week!
