The Langdon area will have a new coffee shop opening its doors at the end of February, providing The Perfect Blend of a big city coffee shop with a hometown feel.
Mauri Roy, originally from Thief River Falls, Minn., and husband Anthony Roy, originally from Langdon, moved to Langdon in the fall of 2013. Roy attended Minnesota State University Moorhead and majored in Social Work with a minor in Business Management.
“Before I was married I was working as a social worker for Pennington County as a disability worker”Roy stated.
While working with the disabled was a passion for Roy the call to own a business runs in the family as Roy’s father owns his business in her hometown.
“From birth to my current age now, my entire life has been surrounded by owning a business” Roy said
“He [my father], along with my husband, have been great resources for me in beginning this new journey of mine” Roy continued.
Roy always has to have her hands working on something so when Roy and her husband moved to Langdon, it was a whole new experience for her. After the move, Roy struggled to find the right career that met her needs to be happy in her new home town of Langdon. Roy knew that perfect career would have to be something she was going to love every single day.
‘I needed to be able to feel proud of what I do and allow myself to use my imagination” Roy stated.
Since she was a young girl, Roy has loved to use her imagination and be creative. Roy has always really enjoyed the atmosphere of a coffee shop, making the opening of her own coffee shop the perfect career choice. Roy explained her love of coffee shops stems from that smell of coffee right when you walk in the door, the relaxed feeling, and the best part, of course, is the smooth coffee and sweet treats.
“The city of Langdon has a wonderful Main Street, with lots to offer but it doesn’t have a place that fits the [coffee shop] description” Roy stated.
Roy, seeing the absence, took advantage of the opportunity and sought out The Perfect Blend of a place that is both welcoming for all ages but also offers something a little unique to the community of Langdon. Roy tried to utilize her creativeness and make The Perfect Blend the way she would want it to be if she were a customer coming in to the shop.
“My focus for The Perfect Blend is to offer the community a relaxing place to sit and visit with friends and family” Roy said
After sampling many different types of coffee from brewers all over North Dakota and Minnesota, Roy decided to offer coffee from Little Coyote Coffee, a roasting company out of Devils Lake, and will also carry coffee from Reality Roasters located in Little Falls, Minn. Roy also has plans to serve soups and sandwiches Tuesday-Fridays with the bread coming from Dakota Harvest Bakers out of Grand Forks. Traditional coffee shop goodies will be baked right at the shop and seasonal items will always be changing.
“My shop will have some fun and unique inventory showing off the many talents from the whole Northern part of the country” Roy said.
The Perfect Blend, located at 717 3rd Street in Langdon, (the old Nodak Mutual Insurance building) will be open on Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m.-1 p.m. The Perfect Blend has a Facebook page with sneak peeks of merchandise that will be available.
“I am looking forward to opening up and meeting new people so stop in an check out The Perfect Blend” Roy stated.
