Grandpa’s Cabin will be hosting their second annual ice fishing tournament on March 14 on Mount Carmel Dam.

“We decided to have the tourney because surrounding community members asked us to host one, as Devils Lake and Grand Forks had them” Val Olson, owner of Grandpa’s Cabin stated.

Olson is also looking into hosting a summer fishing tournament for those who are also interested in summer fun on the dam.

“Hopefully the weather cooperates with us and we do not have -30 degree weather like last year” Olson said.

The ice fishing tournament is set for Saturday, March 14 with registration beginning at 9 a.m. and the tournament starts at 10 a.m. and goes until 3 p.m. All fish must be brought to the designated weighing area before 3 p.m. to be counted in the tournament. The tournament and all participants will follow all North Dakota Game & Fish rules during the tournament.

Tickets can be purchased at Grandpa’s Cabin during business hours. The cost for tickets is $15 in advance and $20 the day of the tournament.   The prizes that will be given are for the largest Walleye, Perch, and Northern. There will also be door prizes but participants must be present to win with the grand door prize once again being an ice auger. The door prizes are being donated from area businesses, as well as a few from Grand Forks.

During and after the tournament Grandpa’s Cabin will have many specials to help warm up and feed participants and attendees.

“We will be running specials on our appetizers during the Tourney, and will have beverages available at the weigh in house.  That evening we will be running drink specials throughout the night, as well as our happy hour special from 4-6 p.m.” Olson stated.

Following a long day of ice fishing what better way to spend the evening than having a great meal? Tournament participants that choose to stay for supper will receive 15 percent off their meal that evening. Grandpa’s Cabin will be offering your choice of rib eye, grilled or breaded shrimp, both of these entrée’s come with a trip down the salad bar, or burger/chicken baskets. This smorgasbord of deliciousness isn’t just for the evening of the tournament, it’s offered every Saturday night.

The fun doesn’t stop when the fishing’s done however, as Grandpa’s cabin will have karaoke starting at 9 p.m. that evening.

So whether you’re an ice hard fisherman or a songbird there is lots to enjoy at Grandpa’s Cabin on March 14. See you at the Cabin
