The Bishop of the Fargo Diocese, the most reverend John T. Folda ,was in attendance as the guest speaker at the dinner.
Bishop Folda spoke about the importance and the impact that Catholic schools and education can have on the communities in which they are located.
Harry Kram, who has been on the board of directors for the foundation since 1988, officially retired at the dinner. Sue Bata will be taking over his position on the board of directors. The board of directors include Cameron Sillers, Bernie Bachman, Dennis Lyons, and Glenn Gapp.
The foundation has raised over a million dollars for the school since its inception in 1984.
“We do one thing, provide a financial foundation for the St. Alphonsus school so they can afford to operate. We don’t provide the most funds, however, as the parish provides the bulk of the funding,” Cameron Sillers, President of the Board of Directors for the St. Alphonsus School Foundation stated.
The purpose of the Foundation is to help insure the financial stability of St. Alphonsus Elementary School. The Foundation itself operates independently from the St. Alphonsus Parish Council and the St. Alphonsus School Board.
The Foundation is a non-profit organization that hopes to continue fund raising efforts to generate more capital which will in turn be invested.
“We will provide financial support to the school indefinitely,” Sillers said.
To become a member of the St. Alphonsus School Foundation, those interested need only make or pledge a donation. Each donation will be added to the principal which cannot be used.
“We are always looking for new members,” Sillers stated.
