The concert will take place at Boyd Block Plaza on Main Street, Langdon beginning at 7 p.m. and those planning to attend are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs. People are also encouraged to bring their own legal beverages as the Northern Lights Art Council(NLAC), who is sponsoring the event, does not have a liquor license for it.
“We’ll play a wide variety of standard jazz to modern arrangements of popular music” Director Curt Kram said.
To mix it up a bit, Allison Brinegar and Ali Gellner will sing a duet, and the trash can percussion group will also be playing. The concern is sure to be a high energy concert with something for everyone.
This is the second year the NLAC sponsored the jazz band. After Boyd Plaza was completed in 2013, NLAC looked for ways that the facility could be used for family entertainment during the summer.
“Last year we also sponsored Jazz on Tap, a trio from Grand Forks. This year, in addition to the jazz band, we are sponsoring Sneaky Wild Oats, a jazz trio from Grafton. They’ll be playing at Boyd Plaza on Thursday, July 9,” Carol Hart, the Director for the NLAC stated.
Admission is a free will donation with proceeds being donated to the Langdon Area Public School Music Department
Last year the event raised $700 which was deposited into the music department general fund. The funds were used by the music department to purchase such necessities as a new keyboard, stage tables, and made it possible for students to be able to attend a musical.
Be sure to attend the LAHS Jazz Band concert for a “hot” evening of music.
