As we come to you this week, harvest has gotten started in Cavalier County.  Not in all parts mind you, but a start is a start.  Barley has kicked things off, with about to get underway. The forecast looks great for the next week plus, so hopefully everyone will be able to roll in the week ahead.  Due to lots of reseeding this year, the harvest window looks to be it’s biggest in recent memory.  But at least we are beginning with some perfect weather to get things going, which should be going on deep into the month of September.  Good luck to all our farmers, and be safe!

Langdon-Munich football ready to start practice

Crazy as it seems, high school football season is on the horizon. Just a little less than two weeks after the State B Legion Tournament was completed in LaMoure Aug. 2 (Which Carrington won for the second straight year over Park River), football practice will get underway for the Langdon-Munich Cardinals this week.  For the varsity, they will kick things off with their first practice at 7 a.m. on Aug. 12, with the first junior high practice at 10 a.m. the same day.  Josh Krivarchka is once again the head coach for the football program, assisted by Tim Polanski and Derek Grahn.  Kyle Knutson has moved away from the area, and his replacement has not been named as of press time. The Langdon-Munich 4-6 grade team will have their first practice on the first day of school, which is Aug. 25.  The Cardinals will open their varsity season at Belcourt on Aug. 28.  9 Man Football has already begun practice, and for our area teams, North Border will open their season at St. John Aug. 21, while Cavalier will begin defense of their state title at home versus Divide County the same evening.

Golf Leagues are in their final weeks at Langdon Country Club

While it certainly seems early, the Langdon Country Club Tuesday and Wednesday Night men’s and women’s golf leagues will have their final nights of the season on Aug. 11 and 12 respectively.  There will still be playoffs for the men’s league and a fun night planned for the women, but the last official league night is this week.  The annual Men’s Miller Lite Golf Tournament will be held Aug. 15 at the course.  It is a very popular tourney, and signup sheets should be out this week at the club house.  It’s all sponsered by Schwann Wholesale of Devils Lake.

A fun volleyball night planned in Langdon

Volleyball practice is still a ways away, but we want to let you know that the UND Volleyball team is scheduled to make an appearance in Langdon on Aug. 20.  They will holding a volleyball clinic on that day at 4 p.m., then the entire UND team will have a scrimmage at six at the Langdon High School gym, which will of course be open to the public.  Langdon native McKenzie Hart of course will be a huge part of the UND team this year, as she is now a senior (!!) with the team.  This night will be a chance for you to see McKenzie play live and in person with her team, so make sure you save the date!

“See ya!” next week!
