Jake’s take on sports

Harvest humming right along

Let’s start this week by continuing to wish our farmers continued good luck with harvest.  As we type this week, we are in a very nice stretch of harvest weather, with more looking like it’s on the way.  So far in Cavalier County things are way ahead of schedule, but there is still quite a ways yet to go.  Just good to see everything moving right along, and hopefully that will keep going.

Lady Cards to have their first home match this week

There is a lot of excitement about the Langdon-Munich Cardinals girls volleyball team this year (and all Cards girls sports for that matter), and rightfully so.  The Lady Cards will have their first home match of the season Sept. 3 against perennial rival Thompson.  Hopefully you can out and see them live and in person, but for those in the field, the match will be on 95-7 The Rock Farm.  Langdon-Munich opened their season with a tournament at Northern Cass, where they tried to defend the title of that tourney they won last year.  Also the Langdon-Munich football team continues on the road for their first two games, and they will play ironically at Northern Cass on Sept. 5.

NDSU football gets rolling

It is football season now for all levels, including college football, where the NDSU Bison will defend their national title for a fourth straight year, playing at Montana to start the season on Aug. 29.  It will be a little different watching the Bison this year and not seeing Travis Beck, who finished his career last year.  But there is still a local Cavalier County connection on the team, as Langdon-Munich alum Colter Pritchard is on the team, hoping to make some kind of impact on the field this year.  Colter is listed as a 5′-6′ 167 sophomore receiver for the Bison, and the best part is his now has his own number, #9.  He was sharing a number last season, so when you get your own, that usually means good things.  So instead of cheering for our #52 this year, we will hopefully look forward to cheering for our #9!

Fall Sports Preview coming next week

Now that all high school fall sports have gotten underway with games, matches and meets, we will bring you our annual Fall Sports Profile in next weeks issue, where you will find info about all high school fall sports teams in Cavalier County.  Look for that in next weeks paper.

“See ya!” next week!
