Let’s being this week folks by announcing the new head coach of the Langdon-Munich Cardinals boys basketball program. A search for a new head of the program was out ever since former Kyle Knutson turned in his resignation this past summer and has since moved to Grand Forks. The new coach of the Cards will be Stanley Dick of Munich, and he will be assisted by Tim Polansky, who is also athletic director at the Munich school. A third coach may possibly be named, depending on how many kids come out for the Cardinals grade 9-12 team.
Stan is no stranger to the area of course, as he is also a Cavalier County commissioner. He has coached and officiated at many different levels in Munich, and was head coach of the Munich-Starkweather Magic Storm boys team before the Langdon-Munich basketball co-op started, and Polansky was his assistant there as well.
Officials at both Langdon and Munich schools wanted a veteran coaching presence to try and turn around a program that has won just one game over the past two seasons. There is a lot of talent coming in the years ahead all the way through the junior high and grade programs for Langdon-Munich boys basketball, and trust that Coaches Dick and Polansky are the right fit to turn that talent into a winning program.
Cross Country team has a home meet this week
The Langdon-Munich cross country team will host a home meet on Sept. 21 at the Langdon Country Club. It will be a boys and girls meet, and will feature teams from all around the area. Coach Todd Hetler invites fans to come out and watch the action, as this will be the only meet in Langdon this season. While numbers a down a bit for the cross country program, there are still runners for the boys and girls that have been doing very well individually. We wish them the best of luck in their home meet, and the weather looks awesome for Sept. 21.
Langdon gets awarded the Junior Gold State Tournament
We will leave this week by giving you the good news that Langdon and Dakota Spirit Arena has been awarded the 2016 State Junior Gold Hockey Tournament. Some of the bigger towns in the league either weren’t able to host it schedule wise or just flat didn’t want to have it, so officials tell us. So Langdon will get the honor of doing it, and it is already set for March 3-5, 2016. It was just a couple of years that Langdon hosted this event, and everything went very smoothly, so we will look forward to same thing this time around.
End of the year golf tourney cancelled at Langdon Country Club
Sept. 26 was supposed to be the day for an end of the year golf tournament at the Langdon Country Club. But due to a number of scheduling conflicts, the tourney has been forced to be cancelled. A friendly reminder that Tuesday Night Men’s Stag will be held at the club until at least the middle of October, and club president Cody Pengilly tells us, “We are still working on some kind of event towards the middle to the end of October to wrap up another great season at the club. We have some ideas but don’t have anything finalized just yet.” And remember the course is now wide open for open golf anytime. The course looks beautiful this time of year, so get on out an enjoy a round while you still have the opportunity. The fall meeting for the club is also planned for mid-October.
Hey fellow Vikings fans, remember it’s only one game, and “See ya!” next week!
