As we start this week, the Langdon-Munich Cardinals volleyball team is getting ready to play in the Region 4 Girls Volleyball Championship match in Devils Lake on Nov. 12.  They are going up against their arch rival North Star Bearcats for the rite to go the the State B Tourney, which is going to be held in Minot at the MSU Dome Nov. 19-21.  No matter what happens, it’s been another banner year for Cardinals volleyball, and everyone from all over Cavalier County is extremely proud of the team and their accomplishments this season.

Girls Basketball practice to begin

On the heels of the volleyball season being completed, comes the start of girls basketball practice.  Ethen Askvig is the head coach of the program once again this year, and he tells us that practice will begin on Nov. 16, with the time to be determined depending on if the Lady Cards make the State B Volleyball Tournament.  Askvig is assisted on the varsity this year by Harley Brown, and Jenny Romfo and Lane Christianson will be handling the junior high girls basketball teams.  In the Miss Hoopster Girls Basketball Preview, Langdon-Munich is ranked 29th in their top 40 power poll, and third in District 8 behind North Star and Rolette-Wolford.  We think the Cardinals will surprise a lot of people, as they have a lot of experience coming back for this years team.  It should be a fun winter watching them play.

Dakota Bowl played on Nov. 13

Two area teams have made it to state championship football games in the Dakota Bowl, which was held at the Fargodome Nov. 13.  North Prairie (Rolla-Rolette-Wolford) got into the 9 Man Title game against Richland, and Park River-Fordville-Lankin had the opportunity to defend their Class A 11 Man Championship against Killdeer. We congratulate both teams on getting to the Dome, and we will let you know how things turned out for both of them next week.

Hockey season about to get underway

We will leave this week by reminding folks that Langdon Blades hockey season will get going the weekend of Nov. 21-22.  The bantams and girls teams will both have home games on Nov. 21, with all other levels playing on Nov. 22. Gavin Waslaski is coaching the Langdon junior gold team again, and their first game is Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. at home against MayPort. We once again will remind you that Langdon mini mite and mite practice will start Nov. 17 at 5:30 p.m., and if you would like to get your child started in hockey, please call Dallas Witzel at 370-5287, or Travis Peterson at 370-0110 for more information.

“See ya!” next week!
