She died Friday, January 22, 2016 at the Villa Maria in Fargo.
Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.
Geneva was the daughter of Marvin J. and Magda C. (Thompson) Rasmusson born May 14, 1929 in Osnabrock. Her’s was a happy childhood in a Christ centered home comprising of two sisters and two brothers. She grew up in the depression and learned great lessons of thrift, hard work and appreciation which served her well throughout her life. She was educated in Osnabrock where she had many fond memories of her family and the community. She enjoyed and was proud of her Norwegian heritage. Quite often we’d hear “Uffda” with a smile or be greeted with “hasen gorda ma du!” After graduating from Minot State College with her teaching certificate, she taught in Milton and Fargo. Because of her love of children, this profession was very endearing to her. She married the love of her life, Robert John Waind, July 24, 1949 in Osnabrock. He passed away in 2007. They enjoyed 58 years together during which time they resided in Milton, Moorhead, Minn. and Fargo. She was a devoted wife, homemaker and mother to her three children with a home that was full of rich traditions. She was a wonderful cook, loved to knit, crochet and do needlework. She could be counted on to have yummy treats when her hungry children came home from school. Following her teaching career, she held several positions which allowed her to continue her love of working with people on a personal level until retiring at the age of 72. She was respected and loved by all she worked with. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fargo.
She is survived by three children and their spouses: Pauline (Craig) McMillan, Layton, Utah; Paul (Marsha) Waind, Grand Forks; and Pat (Rick) Hoganson, Moorhead, Minn.; 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; a sister, Avis Olson, Fergus Falls, Minn.; sister-in-law, Bonnie Rasmusson Henshaw, Fla.
Geneva was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brothers, Howard and Jim Rasmusson and sister, Lois Rasmusson Klai.
She will be greatly missed by her family, especially her sweet smile and sense of humor. She was adored by her children and grandchildren who would always receive a kiss on their lips at their greetings and departures with the expression, “I love you”! Our family is comforted with the knowledge that she is with her sweetheart and we will be with them again.
Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
