Jake’s take on sports

Snowfest 2016

Posted on 2/13/16

By Jake Kulland

Let us begin this week by telling the 2016 Pembina Gorge Snowfest is coming Feb. 20.  The hub site this year is At the Hop Bar & Grill in Langdon, and it’s all sponsored by the Northeast Snowmobile Club Association. Now of course the organizers are hoping for some more snow to come down to make it a true snowmobile event, and there is some snow in the forecast.  But snow or not, the show will go on.  Stop into the Hop anytime between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. for your chance to win many, many great door prizes.  And of course there are two $1,000 grand prizes for the high and low shake for the day. And that night a band that is true to my heart, “Kulland and the Gang”, will be perfoming the night of Feb. 20 beginning at 9 p.m.  We are hoping to make that a very special evening for everyone, and we hope to see you all there, as it’s been awhile!
Hart reaches 1,000 career points

We press on in this column by congratulating Langdon-Munich junior Madi Hart on reaching the milestone of 1,000 points in her career. She got that done in a Lady Cards game at Lakota-Edmore on Feb. 5. She actually needed 10 points to reach this goal that night, and exactly 10 is what she got.  Of course she has the postseason this year and all of next season to add to that total, but reaches some rare air in getting to this point.  She joins her sister McKenzie Hart and many more Cavalier County players on this historic achievement, and again we say congrats.

Langdon-Munich Junior Varsity completes season

The Langdon-Munich girls basketball junior varsity concluded their season last week with a record of 16-3.  JV Coach Harley Brown wanted to congratulate his girls on working hard all year and having a great season. The Cardinals JV lost a couple of games due to other teams not having enough girls out to play this season, but they still did very well, and the future looks very bright for the Lady Cards program.  Thanks go out to Lane Christianson and Jenny Romfo for coaching the junior high teams, which both also had a lot of success this year.

State Wrestling Tournament coming up

Feb. 18-20 is the 2016 State Wrestling Tournament, which will be held in the Fargodome.  The Pembina County North wrestling team did not make the State Dual Meet after being shocked by Central Cass in the semifinals at regionals, but they still hoped to have a number of grapplers make state in the individual portion of the tourney. We wish them all the best of luck.

The postseason is about to get crazier

With everything we’ve already told you, the postseason will reach it’s highest point after the final week of boys basketball and junior gold hockey for the regular season.  Remember the regional girls basketball tournaments start across the state on Feb. 22, then the District 8 Boys Basketball Tournament hits the floor in Dunseith starting Feb. 26.  And of course Langdon will host the State Junior Gold Hockey Tournament March 3-5.  We have a lot more information on these tourneys next time we visit.

“See ya!” next week!
