A funeral service was held Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the Langdon United Methodist Church of Langdon for Judy R. Downs, 81, of Langdon.

She died Saturday, February 20, 2016, at the Cavalier County Memorial Hospital of Langdon.
Burial will be held at the Lebanon Cemetery, Langdon, in the spring.
Judith R. “Judy” Bateman was born May 13, 1934 at Devils Lake to Edwin and Grace (Nickeson) Bateman. She grew up in Clyde and graduated from Clyde High School in 1951. In 1955, she graduated from the UND School of Nursing. On October 16, 1955, she married Wiley Downs at Clyde. After their marriage they lived in Langdon, where she worked as an RN at the Cavalier County Memorial Hospital. During that time she delivered many of the babies born to area families. She was a devoted member of the Langdon Methodist Church and also a member of P.E.O and Order of the Eastern Star. She served on the boards of the Cavalier County Memorial Hospital and the Cavalier County Senior Citizens. She was an avid UND hockey fan “Go Sioux” and was a season ticket holder for many years. Everyone enjoyed her delicious special K bars. She dedicated her life to her family and was “Grandma Judy” to many.
Survivors include her children: Chuck (Kathy) Downs of Langdon, Kathy (Randy) Hiltner of Devils Lake, Pat (Cindy) Downs of West Fargo, Paul (Lisa) Downs of Milliken, Colo.; son-in-law Curt Fischer of Langdon; grandchildren: Abby (Todd) Borchardt, Tim “Timmer” Downs, Jamie (Steve) Koeritz, Lindsey Hiltner, Jill Downs, Austin Downs, Carlye (Justin) Anderson, Travis Downs, Allie Downs, and Sammie Downs; great-grandsons: Jack, Ben, and Sylvester; and sister Janet Herber.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Wiley on June 30, 1993, and daughter Carrie Fischer.
