A Celebration of Life potluck will follow after the service at the Langdon Senior Citizens Center, eating by 5 p.m. She died August 5, 2012 in Fairbanks, Alaska after a brief second battle with cancer, with her family and loved ones at her side.
Donna Backes Moe was born in Michigan in 1941, and raised in North Dakota. She married Gordon Moe in 1965 and began her life as an Army wife, moving cross country several times and always back to North Dakota when Gordon was overseas. Moving to Fort Wainwright, Alaska from Fort Hood, Texas in 1973, she and her husband and three children started their Alaska experience. She worked several years on Fort Wainwright at the Craft Shop and later at Morale Support Services, where she made many lifelong friends. She was active in Jayceettes and volunteered for elections at her polling station. Her garden was a favorite and brightened the neighborhood of Island Homes. She also volunteered for the local MDA Telethons and donated plants from her garden for the hospice plant sale. She was a lifelong crafter and enjoyed fabric painting, ceramics, tole painting and oil painting, and for the last several years she created beautiful quilts for family and friends. She always cherished her family and friends. We will always cherish every moment we had with her.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents Adeline and Louis Backes and her husband Gordon Moe passed away November 13, 2014.
She is survived by her brother Larry Backes; her children DeAnne Raby of Portland, Ore., Denise Moe of Fairbanks, Ak., Daniel Moe of Portland, Ore.; grandchildren Josh, Matt, Stephanie, Jamie, Tyler, Katlynn, Madeline and Megan; and great grandchild Keyara.
