Carolina on my mind

As we write this week, I am about to embark on a journey to the National Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association Convention, held in Salisbury, North Carolia June 18-20. Why is the National office and convention there? I really have no idea. But this is where I receive the 2015 North Dakota Sportscaster of the Year award. Should be a bananas time, and we will have lots of great stories to pass along in this column next week. Joining me on the trip will Dennis “Scoop” Throndset, who has earned the opportunity after years of being right with me on countless broadcasts over the years. A big thank you to Bob, Diane and everyone at Simmons Multi-Media/KNDK Radio for taking care of things to get out there and back. I said it before and I’ll say it again, I consider this an award not for just me, but for our entire station. Look for some fun things to tell you about next time we talk.
Dinius shines at North Dakota Optimists matches
Langdon graduate Jocelyn Dinius participated in the 2016 North Dakota Optimists All-Star Volleyball matches, held in Fargo and Bismarck June 14-15. She played on the East team, which featured both Class A and Class B players. She played well in both matches, with three kills and three aces in the match in Fargo, and two kills and two services aces in Bismarck. These were Jocelyn’s last competitive high school volleyball matches for her career, and it was great to see her go out on top, as the East team won both matches. She will now go on to NDSU to run track in a variety of events, including her favorite, the pole vault. We wish her the best of luck in her upcoming college career.
LASDF Golf Tourney coming June 25
The annual Langdon Area School District Foundation Golf Tournament is coming up on June 25. This comes exactly two weeks after the CCMH foundation tournament, which we are happy to say was won by the husband and wife duo of Daren and Whitney Bachman (Who played while being a couple of months pregnant… Whitney, not Daren). Anyway, the school foundation tourney again will be on June 25 with a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m. Chalmer Dettler, one of the many organizers of the event, tells that there are still openings for a couple of four person teams, and to get signed up call him at 256-5431, or just come out the day of the tourney for registration which will start at 9:30 a.m.
American Legion Baseball happening this week
Being we are headed to North Carolina, our American Legion Baseball coverage has been a little choppy, but that will change this week. The Langdon Red Sox have been improving as the year has gone on, and they will play at home on June 22 against a talented Nelson County club at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully you can come out and see the team play. Also we are now right about a month away from the Northeast Region American Legion Baseball Tournament, which will be held in American Legion Field July 20-24. Some good times seem to ahead for the Red Sox team.
“See ya!” next week!
