As we begin this week, we are also beginning the first big weekend for high school sports. The Langdon-Munich Cardinals football played their home season opener against Belcourt Aug. 26, and will have another home game versus a tough Northern Cass team on Sept. 2. The Cardinals first three games are non-conference contests, and they will have their first Region 2A game on the road at Rugby on Sept. 16. Meanwhile the Langdon-Edmore-Munich volleyball team is going for their third straight title in the Northern Cass Invitational on Aug. 27, and will have their first regular season match at Thompson on Sept. 1. The Lady Cards first home match is Sept. 6 against Cavalier. The Cardinals football team should improve on a one win season from last year, and the volleyball girls look for another successful fall in defense of the Region 4 title.
Playoffs down to the championship for Men’s League Golf; Women’s league champions named
The Langdon Country Club is moving into the later part of the season, although they hope to go well into October. The Tuesday Men’s Golf League playoffs is down to the championship. And your truly along with my partner Russ Stremick have somehow made our way into the finals, versus the supremely talented team of Owen Berg and Larry Geisen. As I’ve said the last couple of weeks, they is uncharted territory for our squad, as we are first timers in playoff competition. But as my partner said, “This will probably be the only time in our lives that this is going to happen, so let’s make the most of it!” And make the most of it we will, with the championship to be played sometime in the week ahead. We will let you know how things turn out, and win or lose, Russ and I have enjoyed being the “Cinderella Story” these last couple of weeks. The Wednesday Womens League at the course was completed a few weeks ago, and we congratulate Karen Borgen and Rosemary Sando on winning the league this year (We attempted to get a picture of the winners for the Republican, but they are extremely camera shy). Great job ladies!
Glow Ball Tournament coming soon
The last tournament at the Langdon Country Club is the annual Glow Ball Tournament, which will be held in the evening of Sept. 9. They will tee off around 9:00pm, and this tourney is open to all golfers. It’s really fun if you’ve never tried it. They will have hor d’ ourves served throughout the tourney, and of course the bar will be open. Call 256-5938 for more information.
Fall Sports Profile next week
Our annual fall sports preview, the “Fall Sports Profile”, will be coming next week. In it you can find schedules and team capsules for area football, volleyball and cross country. Thanks to the many sponsors that made this possible once again this year.
“See ya!”, next week!
