A memorial service was held Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Washburn McReavy Funeral Chapel in New Brighton, Minn. with a later service planned in Langdon, for Verna Warwick Schmiess, 89, of New Brighton, Minn., and long-time resident of Alsen and Langdon.

She passed peacefully into glory on September 18, 2016 in St. Paul, Minn.
Verna Belle Anne Warwick was born in Hannah on March 2, 1927. In school at Hannah, she excelled in oratory and music. After marrying Henry in 1946 and moving to a farm near Alsen, she served as a piano teacher, church organist, and choral director in the area for 50 years. She loved good books and classical radio and was an excellent writer. In 1980, Henry and Verna moved to Langdon, where she worked for a time as secretary and newsletter editor at Maple Manor Nursing Home. In 2002, the couple moved to New Brighton, Minnesota, to be near their children. She loved Christ and her wide circle of friends and family. She was a gracious, wise, and talented woman who will be dearly missed.
Verna is survived by husband of 70 years, Henry, and children: Nola (Dennis) Port, Lauren (Sheryl) Schmiess, Steven (Debbie) Schmiess, and Holly (Michael) Donato, along with 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by parents Leonard and Carrie Warwick and three siblings.
Memorials preferred to the Salvation Army.
