Christmas Time is here

Amazing how time flies but here we are in the holiday season officially.  The calendar works out very nicely as both Christmas and New Years fall on weekend days this year.  The plans here are the weekend in Grand Forks, and then a drive out to Williston to make my Dad’s ranch is still there, as he winters in the Phillipines (Long, long story about  why he goes there… Let’s just say he served there in the Air Force years ago and leave at that.)  Another possible blizzard may greet us on Christmas Day, but here’s hoping everyone will get to their destinations by the time that hits.  The Christmas break has also come to our area schools, but there are still plenty of activities going on between Christmas and New Years.  Let’s tell you all about everything that what’s happening.
Cardinals girls and boys playing in holiday shootouts
We start with telling you the Langdon boys and girls basketball teams in action in late December.  The girls will once again play in the Hillsboro-Central Valley Shootout, as the eighth ranked Lady Cards take on Richland at 12 noon on Dec. 28, then play May-Port-C-G at the same time Dec. 29, with both games played at Hillsboro. Meanwhile the boys play at the Jamestown Shootout, going up against Oakes at 4 p.m. on Dec. 29, then playing Pingree-Buchanan at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 30, with both games at the Jamestown Civic Center.  These are all non-conference and are a great way to work on things to get ready for bigger games in the New Year.  Both Cardinals teams had just one home game in December, but be assured a pile of home contests will be coming up in January.  Also each team has just one loss on the year, so try and get and see them both play in person, as they both play a very exciting brand of basketball.
Alumni games set for Dakota Spirit Arena
While both the Langdon Blades junior gold and girls hockey teams have the holiday break off, the annual Alumni Games are scheduled at Dakota Spirit Arena for New Years Eve, Dec. 31.  The girls game will take place at 2 p.m. that day, with the boys game at 3:15 p.m…. There will be several players from past Blades teams, and it’s a fun atmosphere to come out and watch.  Also open skating is set at the Arena, Dec. 26-30, from 1-4 p.m. each day.  To find out more about the Alumni games if you someone who would like to play contact organizer Shauna Schneider, or for anything with Arena, call 256-5242.
Ellingson, Mikkelsen, sign to play college volleyball
We will leave you with some fantastic news about two senior athletes with ties to the area that have signed to extend their volleyball careers in the college ranks.  The University of Jamestown has signed both Sydney Ellingson of Langdon and McKenna Mikkelsen of Fargo on letters of intent to play in college for the Jimmies.  Both girls are back row players, and we trust they both should be big time contributors for the Jimmies program.  Sydney of the daughter of Troy and Kara Ellingson of Langdon, and McKenna is the daughter of Langdon natives Duane and Robin Mikkelsen of Fargo. Congrats to both girls, and best of luck next fall!
Merry Christmas!  All us Vikings fans want is a Christmas Eve win over the Packers… “See ya!” next week!
