A “Celebration of Life” service was held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Burnsville, Minn. on Sunday, January 29, 2017 and a second “Celebration of Life” service was held Tuesday, January 31 at Milton Lutheran Church in Milton for Harlan R. Hanson, age 92, of Milton.
He died on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Arbor Lane in Burnsville, Minn.
Interment at Milton Memorial Cemetery.
Harlan Raymond, the son of Edward and Ragna (Olson) Hanson, was born on October 31, 1924 in Milton. He attended 12 years of schooling at Milton Public School where he was active in sports and drama. He served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific Theatre in the Philippines. He married Gladys Hjelmstad on August 29, 1948 at Milton Lutheran Church. He was a farmer and was also instrumental in the rebuilding of the Harvest States Elevator, the construction of the American Legion and the Milton Lutheran Church, of which he is a member. He was also a member of several organizations, including: the American Legion, holding many offices in the local, district and state level; Last Mans Company WWII, serving as Captain and Clerk; Square Dance Clubs, the Milton Promanaders and Langdon Border Belles and Beaus; and president of The Little Star Theatre Association since 1986. He was proud of his hometown hero award for countless hours of community service.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys; three sons, Handt (and Kathy) Hanson of Prior Lake, Holden (and Danette) Hanson of Lakeville and Hugh Hanson (and Vini Costanzo) of Pittsburgh, PA; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Bernard, Marvin, Arnold, Edwin and Sidney; two sisters, Thelma and Arleen; and two sisters in infancy.
