Jake’s take on sports

The first of many State Tournaments is here

We are about to reach mid-February, and that means it’s time to get winter state tournaments rolling.  The first of them is the 2017 Class A & B Wrestling Tournament, which will be held at the Fargodome Feb. 16-18.  The Pembina County North Grizzlies had to fight their way into the dual portion of the state tourney, having to come back through the consolation bracket and beat Central Cass by a score of a heart stopping 41-40.  They will be the second seed behind Carrington out of Region 2 in the Dual State Tourney which will begin on Feb. 16.  The individual portion (Which still had regional tournaments going on Feb. 11), will begin later in the day on Feb. 16.   Good luck to the Grizzlies and all area grapplers at state.

Parents Day coming to Dakota Spirit Arena

Feb. 12 is a big day at Dakota Spirit Arena, as it will be Parents Day for the junior gold and girls teams.  The Blades boys will play Watford City at 10:30 a.m. that day, with the girls to follow against Wahpeton at 12:30 p.m.  Parents of all the players will be recognized, along with the seniors for both teams between games.  This is a great time for you to come out and see teams play and honor everyone involved with both teams this year.  We thanks the seniors for dedication to the Langdon hockey program and wish them best of luck this weekend.

Langdon to host the District 8 Boys Basketball Tournament Feb. 24-27

While girls basketball tournaments have already gotten underway, the postseason for boys hoops is not too far off.  Langdon gets the honor of hosting the District 8 Boys Tourney this year, beginning on Feb. 24.  Help is always needed to hold something like this, and if you can help out in any way, please contact tournament manager Ethen Askvig at Langdon High School at 701-256-5291.  A reminder that the Cardinals boys will close out their regular season with two home games versus Lakota on Feb. 16, and a makeup game at home against Cavalier on Feb. 17. The Cards are on a four game winning streak, and have gotten to 10 wins on the year for the first time in almost 10 years (We are checking on exactly when the last time was).  This young Cardinals team has been fun to watch, so hopefully fans will be out in full force to cheer them on in their last two home contests.

“See ya!” next week!
