Langdon native, Harry Edward Franta, 77, son of the late Edward J. Franta (Former Publisher and Editor of the Cavalier County Republican) and Jennie L. Franta of Langdon, died March 8, 2017 in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he had lived for the past nine years.
A 1957 graduate of Langdon High School, he was born April 26, 1939 at the then new Mercy Hospital in Langdon. He attended Langdon schools and was a member of the First Methodist Church of Langdon. He attended the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks, where he earned an associate degree. Franta was never employed by the Cavalier County Republican, which was owned and operated by his father in partnership with the late Richard E. Forkner. He was, however, involved in journalism his entire working life.
He is survived by his wife, Margo; his daughter, Jennie; his son, Andrew; his daughter-in-law, Stacey Margolis; his grandsons, Charles and Marcus; and his sister, Rosemary Peterson.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Maggie; and his sister, Margery Sherva.
