Funeral Services were held May 13, 2017 at the Swiss Mennonite Church in Alsen for Lois Spenst, 88, of Langdon, who passed away peacefully at her home in Langdon on May 2, 2017.
Burial at Bethel Cemetery.
Lois was born April 22, 1929, to Chester and Addi Rouse of Loma. She graduated from Langdon High School. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Mayville State College. In 1948, she married Ralph Spenst while teaching in Waterloo Township. She continued her teaching career in Gordon Township, Alsen, and Langdon High School. She was generous and always willing to help students before and after school. She was an active National Education member. She encouraged her children and grandchildren to pursue college degrees. She loved to read, taught Sunday school, and had a strong Christian faith.
Lois is survived by her husband, Ralph; their two daughters, Lou Loewen, and husband Wesley, of Overland Park, Kan., and Phyllis Schroeder and husband Nathaniel, of Bismarck. Lois has four grandchildren: Reginald Loewen, Fort Collins, Colo., Ethan Loewen, Overland Park, Kan., Natalia (Schroeder) Canaj, Lepzig, Germany, Erika (Schroeder) Greenwood, Warrenton, Va. and three great-grandchildren: Isabelle and Danny Loewen, both of Fort Collins, Colo., Gabriela Eve Canaj, Leipzig, Germany. Surviving siblings include Dorothy Kjos, Langdon, Alice Krohn, Osnabrock, Laura Connelly, Las Vegas, Nev., Corine Horton, Denver, Colo. and Harris Rouse, Grand Forks.
