Mount Carmel Dam opens for the season

A true sign of spring and the upcoming summer is the annual opening of the Mount Carmel Dam Recreation Area, which opens officially the weekend of May 12-14.  Many people having been waiting for this weekend to come for many moons.  Mount Carmel is home to many people in Cavalier and Pembina counties plus Southern Manitoba who pretty much stay out there from May to September. Let’s hope it’s another great camping season at the little gem just north of Langdon and of course also just west of Walhalla.  We wish everyone a great time there.

Regional Track Meet fast approaching

Just craziness that we are already talking about regionals for spring sports, but that is indeed the case.  It all begins for track and field with the Northeast Region Track Meet, to be held May 19 in Larimore.  In case of rain or bad weather it will be held May 20. It has been held on a Friday the last couple of years, which seems strange in the fact that more fans most likely would be able to attend on a Saturday.  But it is what it is, and athletes from all over the region will compete to qualify for the State Class A and B Track Meet, to be held at the Community Bowl in Bismarck May 26-27. We will print a complete list of area state qualifiers next week in the days leading up to state.

Cardinals baseball team to finish their regular season May 15

The Langdon-Edmore-Munich high school baseball team will close their regular season May 15 (Weather permitting) in Cavalier against Pembina County North in a makeup game from earlier in the season. The Cards are rolling with an eight game winning streak, and they have a shot at hosting the Region 4 Tournament, which runs May 22-24.  A few things have to fall their way, including winning their remaining league games, but if they do that they would either get into a tie for first place, or take second place outright.  The teams they are in contention with are Park River-Fordville-Lankin and Grafton, with those two teams also playing on May 15 in Grafton.  If there would be a 3-way tie, it would come down to coin flips to decide the regular season champion, and the host site for the Region 4 Tourney.  Hopefully the fun season the Cards have had to this point will only continue to get better into the postseason.

Regional golf ready to go May 18

Boys and Girls Golf will begin their postseason this week, on May 18.  The Northeast Region Boys Meet will be held in Cando, with the girls at Grafton the same day.  Both meets begin at 11:00 a.m. Qualifiers will advance to the state tourneys on May 30-31, with the boys state at Mandan, the girls at Bismarck, which makes it pretty easy to take in both of them.  We will try and get a list of qualifiers for area teams after the regionals are held.

Deadline for Tuesday Mens League Golf is May 15

When many of you read this paper, it will be deadline day to sign up a 2-Man team for Tuesday Mens League Golf at the Langdon Country Club.  At press time, there was still room for teams in both the 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. shifts.  To be signed up, call of text Randy Hill, league secretary at 701-370-1118.  The league is set to begin May 23.  As for Wednesday Womens League, we have not been given a start date as of yet, but we do know that Jenny Romfo is taking team entries for that, please contact her to sign up a team there.  As we’ve said here before, the club and course is off to a great start, and its looking to be a big year all the way around.

Happy Mother’s Day to all our motherly readers, including my Mom Ellen Kulland in East Grand Forks, Minn., and “See ya!” next week!
