There is a new deputy patrolling the streets and making Cavalier County safer. Cavalier County Deputy Nick Hoffman joined the Cavalier County Sheriff’s Department in early May of 2017.

Hoffman is originally from Devils Lake and attended Lake Region State College for Peace Officer training which he graduated from in December 2016. Hoffman already has a long history of serving North Dakota communities as he has been a member of the North Dakota National Guard for the past 15 years.
“I worked for the Department of Defense at Camp Grafton prior to this,” Hoffman said.” This is my first position as a police officer.”
A major draw for Hoffman in coming to the Cavalier County Sheriff’s Department was the small community environment. Hoffman has already joined the Langdon Eagles Aerie #3454.
“The community has been really supportive, and I haven’t had any bad experiences,” Hoffman said.
Hoffman and his wife have six children, all of whom they have adopted, and also foster through PATH.
“We also have three dogs and four cats,” Hoffman shared.
Hoffman and his family are enjoying the area they have chosen to make their home, especially having access to the great outdoors.
“We like being outdoors and having the Gorge in our backyard is a bonus,” Hoffman said.
So far, Hoffman has settled into his position as a county deputy very well and is thoroughly enjoying meeting and interacting with the residents as well as his co-workers.
“The people I work with are amazing and have already become like family,” Hoffman stated.
Hoffman’s favorite part about being a police officer is his ability to serve the community in another capacity.
