Last week of spring sports
By Jake Kulland
Memorial Day weekend and the last days of May bring the spring sports seasons to a close. The State A & B Track Meet is being held in Bismarck, with the State Boys and Girls Golf meets in Bismarck and Mandan on May 30-31, and the last event being the State Class B High School Baseball Tournament in Jamestown June 1-3. It’s been a memorable spring for area high school sports, so let’s tell you some things about it…
Cardinals girls golfers win region tourney; boys take second
What a year it’s been for the Langdon-Edmore-Munich golf teams. It doesn’t get much better than seeing the girls once again win the Region 3 title in Grafton on May 18, and boys taking second the same day in Cando. Cards senior Jayden Romfo was named Region 3 Senior Athlete of the year, and her Mom Jenny Romfo once again was named Region 3 Coach of the Year. Jayden also took first as the medalist of the region tourney. On the boys side the Cardinals actually tied for first place with Park River-Fordville-Lankin, but finished second on a tie breaker. Freshman Sid Ullyott took medalist honors, and Cards boys coach Ethen Askvig was named Coach of the Year. Both Cardinals girls and boys teams now compete in the State Golf Meets going on in Bismarck and Mandan May 30-31, and with them all the best of luck at state.
Cards baseball team just misses first state appearance since 2006
The Langdon-Edmore-Munich high school baseball team just missed heading to the State B High School Baseball Tournament in Jamestown. The Cardinals won their first two games in the Region 4 Tourney, and needed to win just one more game over PRFL to go to state, but it did not happen, as the Aggies won two games and will make a return trip to Jamestown June 1-3. It was heartbreaking to see the Cards get so close to something they wanted so badly, but we still congratulate them on a find season ending with a record of 15-6. Langdon-Edmore-Munich had three players make the All-Region 4 team in Jacob Delvo, Conner Tetrault and Ethan Sampson, while Coach Josh Krivarchka was named Region 4 Coach of the Year. It would’ve been great to see the boys at Jack Brown Stadium in Jamestown, but they lost to a very good team, and they should be proud of the season they had. Up next is American Legion Baseball for the Langdon Red Sox, and there first game is June 5 versus Larimore at American Legion Field. But we will talk more about that and other summer announcements next week.
Langdon Country Club to host two tournaments in June
With June arriving things keep getting busier at the Langdon Country Club. Tuesday Mens League is already off and running, and the Wednesday Womens League will start on June 7. Two big tournaments will be coming to the course in June — the Cavalier County Memorial Hospital Charity Tourney on June 10, and the Langdon Area School District Foundation Tournament on June 24. Contact Mary Shanker for playing in the hospital tourney, and Chalmer Dettler for the school tournament. Both tournaments fill up fast and are a lot of fun, so we suggest you sign up for them ASAP.
Have a great Memorial Day weekend, congrats to all area graduates, and “See ya!” next week!
