NE Region American Legion Tournament comes to Langdon
By Jake Kulland
A lot of hard work has gone into an event coming to Langdon this week. The Northeast American Legion Baseball Tournament is in Langdon, hosted by Langdon Post 98 and Langdon Area Baseball. It runs July 18-22 at American Legion Field. We are thrilled to say that the tourney should have fantastic weather all week long, which is a total turnaround from last year, when it seemed to rain every day in July, eventually forcing the tourney to be moved from Langdon to Tolna, and then moved again to Grand Forks. That was one crazy week, and hopefully things will go much smoother (They couldn’t get much worse than that) this time around. Running a five day tournament (Tuesday through Saturday) is quite a chore, and it wouldn’t be possible without lots of help from lots of great people. For those that have already volunteered to lend a hand at the tourney we can’t thank you enough, and for those that haven’t been asked but would like to help, please contact Tournament Manager Daryl Kempel at 701-370-2210. The Langdon Red Sox will either be seeded third or fourth in the tournament, and will play at 6:30 p.m. on July 18 versus either Harvey or Larimore. We need to get in a couple more baseball notes this week — Congratulations to the Langdon Red 12U Little League team on winning the Northern League Tournament to complete a great season. Coach Darrin Romfo and the team had a very special year, crushing Grafton in the championship for the title. And best of luck to the Langdon Eagles Babe Ruth team, who are participating in their league tourney July 13–17 in Park River.
A big week of golf tournaments coming to the Langdon Country Club
It’s been busy, busy, busy at the Langdon Country Club all season, and it only gets better in the week ahead. The course will hold the annual Langdon Ladies Inviational on July 17, then the Northern Canola Growers Tourney on July 20, which is the biggest single day tournament the course hosts all summer. Also on July 24, the Men’s Senior Tour will make their stop in Langdon on July 24. For more information on any of these tourneys, stop by the clubhouse or call 256-5938. The International is also coming up at the end of the month, but will talk that up more next week.
Let’s get physicals
We don’t want to start talking about fall sports a whole lot just yet, let’s enjoy the summer just a big more. But we do want to get the word out that a couple of days have been set for an appointment to get a physical have been set at the Cavalier County Clinics in Langdon and Walhalla. We do not have the exact days and times at press time here, but the best thing would be to call CCMH for more information. Remember, you cannot participate in any high school fall sports or practices (Football, Volleyball, Cross Country), without a physical card. And those practices are coming in early to mid-August (Yikes!), so it’s best to get it done sooner that later.
“See ya!” next week!
