Jake’s take on sports

A State Title for everyone

Posted on 8/4/17

By Jake Kulland

Well, baseball fans in our area are still coming down from the State B Championship won by the Langdon Eagles Babe Ruth team. To see a team have to win six straight games after losing their first is nothing short of spectacular.  And this is not just a state crown for Langdon, but also for really all of Cavalier County, northern Ramsey County and even a portion of Southern Manitoba.  Many thanks go out to so many people for supporting the team in their title effort.  If we put out the complete list we would need a special section of the paper, but let’s just thank each and every business and individual who did so many things for this team in their state championship run.  It won’t be forgotten anytime soon, that is for certain.  Congrats the guys on winning a first ever Babe Ruth crown.

We move right along into Fall Sports

While the door closes on the baseball season, as we told you last week, things are coming right on for fall sports.  As we told you last week, the first football practice for the Langdon-Edmore-Munich Cardinals will be held Aug. 9 at 7:00am.  If you haven’t gotten equipment yet, contact Coach Krivarchka at the Langdon High School. Aug. 10 will be a busy day, as a parent/player activity meeting will be held that evening 6:30 p.m. The LEM Volleyball parent/player meeting for girls in 7-12 will be held Aug. 15 at 6 p.m.  Again any questions on any of this, contact the Langdon High School.  And 9 Man Football for our area schools such as North Border and Cavalier will already have their first game believe it or not on Aug. 18. The sports merri-go-round never seems to stop turning.

Last two tournaments at coming to Langdon Country Club

Aug. 12-13 are big days at the Langdon Country Club. Aug. 12 will be the annual Men’s Miller Lite Tourney, sponsored by Schwann Wholesale will be happening, followed on Sunday, Aug. 13 by the Ladies Invitational Tournament, with a shotgun start at 12 Noon, registration beginning at 11:00 a.m. Both are very fun days on the course, please call the clubhouse at 256-5938, or just come out the days of the event.  The club is also having a Spaghetti Supper and golf outing for all members on Aug. 10, starting a 5:00 p.m.

KNDK Reunion is here

Aug. 12 is also the day for the 50th Anniversary Celebration of KNDK AM 1080. An open house will happen from 2-4 p.m., with a supper and banquet at the Langdon Eagles Club from 5-8 p.m., then a performance by the Fab Four of the original Hard Times band starting at 9 p.m., with more band members joining in as the night goes on.  Many old KNDK names will be in attendance… Roger Hill, Ken Torkelson, Rick Flacksbarth, Jay Schmaltz, Melanie Thornberg, Don Barr just to name a few.  It should be a memorable day and evening.  Make sure you get there early to get your commemorative 50th Anniversary t-shirt.  All events are open to the public.

“See ya!” next week!
