Jake’s take on sports

Post-Labor Day means things are ramping up

Are we begin this time around, things are taking off activity wise.  The Langdon-Edmore-Munich Cardinals football team is ranked fourth in the latest Class A 11 Man Football poll once again this week, and Cavalier is still ranked first in the latest 9 Man poll. Things are also going very well for the Cardinals volleyball and cross country teams, and we will talk some v-ball in a moment. It’s a fun time of year especially when our area athletes are performing so well.  Also, we have to say that harvest is also going ridiculously great all over the place.  I’m sure it’s happened before, but we can’t remember such a long stretch of fantastic combining weather.  There have been just a couple of short breaks over the last two weeks, and the week ahead looks like more good times are on the way.  There seems to be good moods everywhere you look, and we certainly hope that continues.

Lady Cards are serving the ball at a school record pace

The Langdon-Edmore-Munich Cardinals volleyball team had a historic win over Cavalier on Sept. 5 (You can find complete coverage of it with a story by Dennis “Scoop” Throndset in this weeks paper.  The reason we mention it here is that the Lady Cards had 35 service aces in the match (35!!), which was just short of half of their total points (75) scored in the match.  This set a school record for team aces in a match.  Senior Jordan Worley had 10, sophomore Calyn Crockett and junior Madi Pritchard had six each, and senior Rachel Hill had five to lead the way.  With all the success the Cardinals volleyball program has had, when a school record is set that is really big news, and congrats to the team on achieving this mark. We wish them best of luck the rest of the season.

Our fearless Vikings forecast

Well, we will leave you this week by saying that we are getting ready for another year of cheering on our beloved Minnesota Vikings.  The Vikes open their season Sept. 11 at home against New Orleans, where future Hall of Famer and former Viking Adrian Peterson now plays.  It certainly will be bizarre seeing AP on the opposite side of the field at US Bank Stadium, but hopefully the Vikings can hold him and the rest of the Saints back.  As far as our prediction this season, we always say a 16-0 record and a Super Bowl berth, which is being held in Minneapolis this year. Looking their preseason games was tough to watch, but hopefully they will come together when the real bullets start flying.  We heard a great quote recently about our Vikes, “It’s tough to bet on them, and it’s tough to bet against them”.   You can probably that about most sports teams, but it is a perfect statement for our team.  Here’s to fun start to the season.  And remember, you can hear NFL games all season on KNDK 1080.  We will have games on Sunday, Monday and Thursday nights, plus a game of the week doubleheader every Sunday afternoon.  Enjoy!

“See ya!” next week!
