A memorial service was held Friday, January 12, 2018 at the Walhalla Lutheran Church, Walhalla for Joel Wayne Sehrt, 82, of Walhalla, who passed away Sunday, January 7, 2018 at his home in Walhalla.
Joel was born May 22, 1935 at Walhalla to Frank and Esther (Christopherson) Sehrt. He grew up and attended school at Walhalla graduating from Walsh County Agriculture and Training School in Park River in 1954. From 1956 to 1958, he served in the US Army. On September 21, 1958 he married Carol Baker in Osnabrock. After their marriage, they lived south of Walhalla where they farmed for many years. Carol passed away on February 4, 2004. He was always a hard worker and was employed by Fitzsimonds Farms, Cenex/Bjornstad Farms, ADM, Motorcoach Industries, and Supermarket foods. He also served on the Pembina County Mutual Insurance Company and LaMoure Township Board for many years. He was an active member and leader in the Walhalla Presbyterian Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, baking, and spending quality time with his family. He was well known for his friendly disposition, quick wit and sense of humor.
Joel is survived by his children: Lori (Jay Fournier) Sehrt, Firestone, Colo.; Kelly (Michelle) Sehrt, Langdon; and Lisa (Greg) Wieler, Walhalla; three grandchildren: Jamie Sehrt, Northwood; Tanner Sehrt and Riley Wieler, Walhalla; and seven great-grandchildren, Olivea, Isaiah, Estella, Maya, Chey, Tess, and Casey Sehrt; sister Frances (Frankie) Carrier, Walhalla; sister-in-law, Betty (Grant) Nelson of Bullhead City, Ariz. and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his wife, his parents, and grandson, Jace Sehrt.
Askew Funeral Home of Cavalier was in charge of arrangements.
