Jake’s take on sports

Just when we thought is was safe to put the AstroStart away…

We can report to you this week that the Easter weekend is going to be a cold one in Cavalier County.  After a couple days of near 60 degree temps, we are in a bit of a cold spell until at least the middle of the coming week.  It’s not “Blizzard Hannah” bad, but it certainly isn’t way we were hoping to go into April.  Let’s hope we can tough it out long enough to enjoy the near 60 degree temps which are forecast for next weekend.  It’s strange to be hitting the old AstroStart in April, but it is North Dakota so you never know.

Pins are in at the Langdon Country Club

We had a visit the Curt Sando, groundskeeper at the Langdon Country Club a few days ago, and he said the pins are in on the course.  Now, it certainly isn’t optimal weather for swinging the sticks, but that the course is ready to go when the temperatures improve.  Tuesday Night Men’s League Golf will start on May 26, and Randy Hill will be taking the signups once again this year, starting on April 13.  There are a few changes coming to the club this year, and we will get you up to date on what those are in the weeks ahead.  The Langdon boys and girls high school teams will host three tournaments at the course this year, a junior and JV tourney May 1, boys varsity May 7, and a girls varsity meet May 11.  It should be another wonderful year at the Langdon Country Club.

Summer baseball and softball coaches are needed; Signup date set

We are just into April but plans are already being readied for Langdon Area Summer Baseball and Softball.  The Langdon Park Board Baseball Committee met recently, and they have set April 22 for signup night for all baseball and softball programs.  It will be held that evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Langdon American Legion Hall.  Coaches are also needed this year for American Legion Baseball, Babe Ruth, 10U Little League and girls softball.  Red Sox Legion Coach Dylan Crockett will not be back this year, and neither will Babe Ruth coach Connor Braaten.  If you would like to coach any of aforementioned programs, contact any Baseball Committee member – Jake Kulland, Marty Tetrault, Randy Hill, Jay Adam, Holly Lyons, Tom Beachamp, Daryl Kempel, Tyler Feist, Josh Krivarchka or Ethen Askvig.  All of the coaching jobs are paid positions, and all should have some very good squads this season.
