Who’ll stop the rain

We go this week by saying what happened the the dry month of July.  The seventh month of the year is usually supposed to be hot and dry, but the opposite is holding true.  Rain for seven days in a row has dampened a lot of spirits and postponed a number outdoor sporting events.  Thankfully there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel, as the week ahead looks to be warming up and being the July we all remember.  So, let’s look into a number of fun events coming up on what is the biggest summer weekend of the year in Langdon.

Northeast Region Tournament to run July 20-24

This is the week that American Legion Field in Langdon will host the 2016 Northeast Region American Legion Baseball Tournament. Eight teams from Langdon, Nelson County, Thompson, Park River, Harvey, Larimore, Cando and Midway-Minto will all be in town competing for a chance to go the State B American Legion Tournament going in Carrington July 27-31.  The top two teams will advance to state.  We would love to have a bracket to show you, but the weather has forced a number of games in the regular season to be moved back, if they get played at all.  Langdon could be seeded anywhere from fourth to seventh, depending on how the their final regular season games turnout.  Help is needed to run this tourney, and if you could take tickets for a couple of hours, work the concession stand or just lend a hand somehow, please call tournament manager Daryl Kempel at 701-370-2210.  Again as we said above, the weather looks great for the tournament, and being it’s Musicfest week, a huge crowd should be there for what we expect will be many close, competitive games.

T-Ball and Pee Wee Baseball hope to finally complete their seasons on July 18

T-Ball and Pee Wee Baseball hoped to have an end to their season the week of July 13.  But the weather caused all kinds of problems there, too.  Each on got rained out three times, and they hopefully will finally get things done on July 18 with Parents Day for the T-Ball league at 12 (Noon), starting with a hot dog feed sponsored by Thrivent Financial at 11:30 a.m.  Then at 5:30 p.m. that evening, the Pee Wee league will have their end of the year tournament.  A big thanks to Jacy Borgen, who has done a great job once again this year organizing both leagues, which hasn’t been easy with a rainout after another.

Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball plus Girls Softball comes to end

It always seems crazy early, but the Northern League had their end of the year tournaments for Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball plus Girls Softball the weekend of July 9-10.  The Langdon Green “Machine” won the 14U Softball Tournament once again this year, and the Langdon Pink team played well and took fourth.  Meanwhile the Langdon 10U Little League team placed third in their nine team tournament.  The 12U and Babe Ruthers would’ve like to have played a little better in the postseason, but both had very good seasons overall.  Thanks to all the coaches and players for another fun year.

Many golf tourneys coming this week

We told you that Musicfest week is going to be a very busy one, and the Langdon Country Club is one of the busiest spots.  Three tournaments will be held this week, with the Ladies Invitational to start the week, followed by the North Canola Growers Tournament on July 21, and the International Golf Tournament July 22-24.  The International is split between the courses of Langdon, Walhalla, Morden and Winkler.  Also the Mens City Golf Tournament was rained out on July 7, and has been rescheduled for August 4, with a tee off of 3:30 p.m.  And don’t forget the Langdon-Edmore-Munich Sports Boosters Tournament is July 28, for more information contact Ethen Askvig.

Have a fun Musicfest everyone, and “See ya!” next week!
